Mark roots for the Eagles, Lou roots for the Steelers, Episode #3

ManufactureThis thought it might be of interest this week to spotlight two of AAM’s Pennsylvania football fans/field coordinators, Mark Musho and Lou Delatore.  Mark and Lou are, respectively, ardent Eagles and Steelers fans.

We asked them what manufacturing means to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

musho.JPG  Mark Musho: Like many eastern cities, Philadelphia has seen the loss of manufacturing over the last couple of decades. In the northeast, I worked for a U.S. Steel facility and there were 10,000 hourly employees when I started in 1972. The are presently 80 workers left. In the Philadelphia area, there were pharmaceutical plants, automotive plants and plastic makers all providing good paying jobs. These have all left the area.

lou.JPG  Lou Delatore: Let’s face it, in the “Steel City”, no manufacturing, no middle class.  No middle class, no jobs, no ticket sales!  The steel industry is the lifeblood of Pittsburgh. Without the manufacturing of steel, without the blue collar workers of western Pennsylvania, without the various industries up and down the historical three rivers of Pittsburgh, there would be no Pittsburgh Steelers, no football as we know it.
