46,000 manufacturing jobs lost in April
Posted by SCapozzola on May 2nd, 2008Statement from AAM Executive Director Scott Paul regarding the latest jobs report:
“We’re in a jobs crisis. America lost another 46,000 manufacturing jobs last month. While Washington cheers the tax rebates, it continues to ignore the structural challenges that face manufacturing. Unless Congress and the Administration hold China accountable for its cheating—which is the single greatest factor contributing to manufacturing’s woes—and get serious about making American manufacturing more competitive, these job losses will grow every month. The economy is top of mind for voters in Indiana, North Carolina, and all over America. It’s time for all three presidential candidates to offer a vision for jobs and manufacturing in the future—and it’s crucial for Congress and the Administration to act now.”

Dear Friends,
The following information is being sent to help you decide how to
spend your IRS Rebate Check wisely:
As you may have heard, the Bush Administration said each of us would
get a rebate check to stimulate the economy. If we spend that money
at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China. If we spend it on
gasoline it will go to the Arabs. If we purchase a computer it will
go to India.
If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras,
and Guatemala. If we purchase a good car it will go to Japan.
If we purchase useless stuff it will go to Taiwan. Therefore, none of the
above will help the American economy.
We need to keep that money here in America, and the only way to do
that is to spend it at yard sales… since those are the only true
American businesses remaining.
Meanwhile: Responding to skyrocketing global food prices, President Bush asked Congress on Thursday for $770 million in emergency foreign aid targeted at the neediest in the developing world. We are sending them money on top of our jobs.
Thank you for your dutiful attention to this matter.
